2023 has well and truly begun here at Tostan. Before we look ahead to the rest of the year, however, we want to thank you – Tostan’s partners and allies – for your unwavering support in 2022. You helped us achieve many important goals that laid the foundation for success as we move into this new strategic phase.
The Potential of Empowering Education
Our programs reached 25,572 participants – nearly 80% women – most of whom have had little or no access to formal education, in 341 communities across West Africa. We also supported hundreds of participants to reach thousands of family and community members through programs that help them reinforce peace and security and improve early childhood development.
The Power of Communities Leading
Communities across these programs and in connected villages undertook thousands of locally-led actions and efforts to transform their well-being. 332 communities publicly declared an end to harmful practices and we also trained nearly 700 local elected government officials to better work with communities across a range of development issues.
The Deepening Promise of Training and Partnerships
In 2022 we continued building our Training in contexts like Nigeria and we also continued to build our broader model for partnerships to support community well-being Late last year we brought on a very talented new Chief Partnerships Officer, Carina Ndiaye, who brings a wonderful experience to our growing leadership team. Welcome Carina!
