Diane Gillespie, Professor, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at University of Washington Bothell, and Molly Melching, Executive Director of Tostan, recently published an article on Tostan’s unique approach to education. The article focuses on the integration of democracy and human rights into the Tostan Community Empowerment Program.  This integration resulted in an unanticipated, participant-led social movement for the abandonment of female genital cutting (FGC) and child/forced marriage in over 4,000 communities in West and East Africa.  To read more about their findings, click here.
