The latest film in our Breakthrough Generation series, “Youth Voices: The Next Generation of Changemakers in West Africa,” follows young people who came together in December 2015, when 189 villages in the Tambacounda Region of Senegal publicly declared their intent to promote human rights and gender equality by ending female genital cutting, child/forced marriage, and gender-based violence. Youth in West Africa are standing up to traditional harmful practices and becoming leaders in their communities to bring about lasting change for generations to come.

“We the youth must rise and begin to rethink and expand our knowledge, and better understand our rights. Because we the youth have rights. Now the future is ours. We are the leaders of tomorrow.”
