In southern Senegal, Daga Baldé has become a passionate advocate for girls’ and women’s education. Denied the opportunity to complete her own education when she was younger, Daga is now on a mission to ensure that children in her community can stay in school.
Daga embarked on this mission after completing Tostan’s Community Empowerment Program (CEP) in 2013. Through the program, Daga had a better understanding of her rights, responsibilities as a citizen, and member of her community. As a result of her enhanced confidence and acquired knowledge, she was elected to the Ndorda Municipal Council in 2021. She currently serves as the coordinator of her village’s community management committee and as the first deputy mayor of Ndorda.
Daga’s journey speaks to Tostan’s mission, which is to provide a holistic African-inspired model of education program that enables adults and youth to acquire a range of knowledge and skills to address the challenges facing their communities.
